A SLATE-COLORED JUNCO'S VISIT.....

I opened my front door to see how hard it was raining. On the small umbrella tree just off the porch sat a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO. I watched quietly for more than five minutes wondering why he hadn't flown away with the swoosh of an opening door. I stared as he sat looking all around. His little head jerked this way and then that. His vigilance reminded me of the Lord's words that we should ever watch and pray. One eye open, one closed. We are to be vigilant and serious minded in this jaded, partying world. A large drop of rain landed on his nose and bounced off. I saw that! Or, did he spit? I'll never know. Well, he outlasted me. I had stared long enough. So, I quietly closed the door.....peeking at the last minute. He stayed right there. "Lord, help me to be steadfast, unmovable....always abounding in the work of the Lord....or at least keeping wide-awake to all the dangers as a sin prone sinner in this sin-cursed world. Thank you for all the means of grace given in order not to fall off my small umbrella life. Help me while watching to avail myself of these 'means'."
